Mind Australia Limited is one of the country’s leading community-managed specialist mental health service providers. They have been supporting people dealing with the day-to-day impacts of mental illness, as well as their families, friends and carers for over 40 years.
They provide practical and motivational support that helps people to develop the skills they need to move on, thrive and improve the quality of their lives. They also work with people to address poverty, housing, education and employment.
Many of their support workers have been through their own recovery journey and faced similar challenges. Their support workers have a big input into the services they develop. Mind Australia’s services are also shaped by what service users and their families say they want.
Mind is a registered NDIS provider. If you have an NDIS package, ask about their NDIS funded services.
They work hard to engage with families, friends and other carers to involve them in decisions about their loved one’s care, with the consumer’s consent. They also have support services specifically for carers.
Call Mind Australia’s Carer Helpline 1300 554 660 for over-the-phone counselling, as well as to find out about the range of services they have available for carers. (Your loved one does not have to be using a Mind service to access this support.)
Mind Australia advocate for basic human rights for everyone; constantly challenging the stigma and discrimination experienced by people with mental health issues.
The economic and social disadvantages faced by carers is one of Mind’s key research and advocacy priorities. They have launched the Caring Fairly campaign to improve access to employment and education for carers. Visit www.caringfairly.org,au to find out more and get involved.
